Getting it Down: Hawaii

Hawaii- gather

Four months post Hawaii and my tan is officially gone. Sad face. But it’s been a blast going through all of the pictures and being able to have all of those memories flooding back. It really was one of the best experiences ever. So, finally I’ve had a chance to get some of these down on paper and start the process of creating my Hawaii story to share! I am really loving the story kits from Ali Edwards right now. Several of those products were used in these two layouts. I’m kind of leaning towards a more photo driven, simple type of story telling for this album just because the pictures speak for themselves. I’m so excited about this and can’t wait to see how it all turns out!

One Little Word 2015

Celebrate- Blog image

This is my third year participating in Ali Edwards One Little Word class. I’ve found that my words come very easily to me and seem to have a theme. In 2013 I choose “be”. While it seemed easy at first I soon learned that just being content or just being focused was a lot more difficult than I had anticipated. It actually felt like having twelve words instead of one because each month felt like a new word or a new challenge. In the end it all worked out. There were a lot of new things happening in my small corner of the world. In 2014 the word “joy” just kinda stuck. It fit nicely with “be” and helped me continue fitting “be” into my life where I could. Just be joyful. While that may have been the mantra it really wasn’t all that easy. Yet again I managed to choose a word that wasn’t simple and was multifaceted in ways I didn’t even think possible. But that word was perfect for my 2014. I went on business trip to NYC (first time ever!) and had a really amazing experience and got to hang out with my awesome co-workers and make lots of new friends. I flew up to Idaho to photograph my aunt’s beautiful birth of sweet Benaiah. Pure joy. I planned the biggest trip of my life and then actually made it happen. I was able to go to Hawaii for THREE weeks and have the best time ever. Once again, pure joy. On second thought, maybe my word should have been “travel”. Inserts giggles here. And while there were plenty of less than joyful moments, the year ended pretty well. I’m hoping that 2015 will be filled with just as many surprises and because of that I choose “celebrate”. This is the year of new business adventures. This is the year where I step outside of my element. This is the year when I explore the place I’ve lived for the past eighteen years like a tourist. This is the year that I will run my first ever half-marathon (I still can’t even believe that one….). This is the year when I will be soooo planty that I may need to create a new Instagram account just for documenting it all. This is the year that I will go to California. This is the year that I celebrate everything. This is the year that I will start making my dreams come true. It’s a year worth celebrating. And I intend to document it all.

December Daily: Cover Page

Chances are that when you completely run out of ink in your printer you will be several days behind in your December Daily. And honestly? That. Is. O. K. It really is. I’d rather live the story than be anxious about recording the story. I just finished up Ali Edwards Lens of Joy class and she talked about that several times.

Here’s a quick look at my cover page. I wanted to keep it simple and clean. I’m excited to see how the rest of the month evolves!

Oh, Lucky Day

This past Saturday my mother and I went to a local popup vintage barn sale. Don’t let the title fool you. It has twinkle lights, loads of mirrors, and I’ve found a natural bokeh in many of my pictures. Adore? Oh, yes. Also, all of the super cute vintage holiday items! If there’s anywhere I want to visit to gain some inspiration it’s Lucky Day’s Barn Sale! I just want to hang beautiful lights everywhere now! And buy a ton of mirrors! And pretty things!

Hawaii: Part Two

EEEK. Looking through all of my pictures makes me want to go back. NOW. Alas, I am here in the dreaded sunshine state. Where we have first class beaches, famous amusement parks, and yummy sea food. Darn. Anyways…we are still talking about the very beginning of the trip. Making ourselves at home. Finding our favorite spots. Starting a new routine. We only had a car for the first week and we made the most of it. One of our first trips (besides Walmart, because you know we like to eat.) was the Makapu’u Point Lighthouse Trail. It was stunning. Ariah and I busted tail to climb all two miles of it. The lighthouse itself was small and I’m not sure if it would have been something to do again if that had been all. But the view? Stunning. I’d hike it everyday to see that. It was like nothing I had ever seen before. You’re standing on a mountain, in the middle of the ocean, surrounded by water that I don’t think I can describe. The first word to come to mind is blue. The first picture shows the exact blue I’m talking about. A deep, mysterious blue that I wish I could put on canvas. To replicate onto everything I own. The second word was small. I had never felt so small. Not insignificant. Just small. It was very overwhelming and I wish that everyone could experience something so beautiful.

Monday’s Attitude of Gratitude

new shoes

Monday’s are hard for a lot of people. For me it feels like a fresh start, a new week, a different day. But today’s Monday was different. It was actually kind of horrible. Really. Horrible. And when I’ve been feeling horrible lately I try to take a step back and think of all of the things I am grateful for. I should do this all of the time, but somehow I forget. I felt the need to hop on here and put it all down though. As a reminder? A form of accountability? I have NO idea. It just feels right.

1. I got to spend the entire Sunday with my dad.

2. I am able to even think about applying to a new college.

3. Five cups of coffee. F. I. V. E.

4. Copious amounts of reading material.

5. Hillsong Young & Free on repeat.

6. Looking through my Hawaii pictures and planning my next post (and trip! Is it March yet???)

7. Small moments of clarity. Isaiah 43:2

8. Being able to explore my home town & adventure whenever I feel the need.

9. I’m grateful that no one reads this blog yet. My own little piece of the internet.

10. My new lens. It’s a 40mm pancake lens and this thing is a thousand times better than the 50mm 1.8. I. Adore. It.

Let’s make this a weekly occurrence. Sharing that grateful heart.

Hawaii: Part One

I was truly blessed to be able to go to HAWAII for almost three weeks last month. I met my aunt & uncle, their five children, and my grandparents on the island of O’ahu. We stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village and had the best time ever. These pictures are beautiful, blurry, and shot with lots of love. They only show bits & pieces of the very first day or so. Again I am so thankful to my aunt and uncle for letting me come and spend that time with them.

New York City

A few weeks ago I went on a business trip to New York. It was my very first time and I absolutely adored the city. On Friday we arrived and spent the afternoon walking around the city and visiting our sister locations. Saturday and Sunday were all day training sessions. Basically three days of hardcore exercise and non-stop shutter action. Here are a ton of pictures from all over the city!

Project Life

Very excited to be able to start Project Life next week. I’ve decided that instead of being six months behind I’ll just start it on the 10th of June. It will document all of my summer camp adventures and continue on into the school year. If you don’t know what Project Life is you can check it out here. I love the Midnight Edition which is the one that I am ordering on Monday! So while I wait for my beautiful album to arrive I will take pictures and make sure to document pretty much everything (at least the cool stuff). I can’t wait!
